 Study Permit

South Africa, in recognition of the importance of the cross-cultural and academic stimulation permits the admission of a limited number of foreign students. Prospective students are encouraged to apply and await the outcome of a Study-Permit application in their own country.
 • Study-Permits are issued on the condition that
 -  no foreign student may displace a South African
    student at a local institution.
 -  that the student will guarantee his / her departure
    on completion.
 -  must be proficient in English or South African
    official language.
 • Study-Permits are issued only for one year and may be extended (with documentary proof) in South Africa.
 • Study-Permit holders are not permitted to take up employment after completion of their studies.

Documentation to be submitted
 • Application forms: BI-159 A and F, and BI-806 (IM - 13).
 • Proof of Educational qualifications.
 • A motivation as to why the studies have to be pursued in South Africa and cannot be undertaken in the applicant's own country.
 • Proof that the applicant is financially in a position to pay tuition fees and has adequate means of support.
 • Letter from the school / Institution in South Africa confirming admission to the course, duration of the course, fees paid and proof of registration.
 • Repatriation guarantee from the Institution.
 • A copy of contract between the school and pupil explaining all the aspects related to accommodation, medical, etc.
 • Medical Report (BI-811).
 • Both parents consent on stamped paper.
(If a minor)
 • Cash deposit for repatriation purpose in form of DD payable to South African High Commission of
Rs 40,000 (Refundable).
 • Passport must be valid for at least one year.

With regard to the Work-seekers permit, you may include it under the Work-Permits with the following conditions:
 • that a Work-seekers permit is only issued to persons who already have a confirmed job offer and have to appear for a personal interview at the organisation.
 • it is only valid for three months, not extendable.
 • it is not issued to persons for the purpose of searching for a job in RSA.'
